Elon Musk left his gig as the leader of the Trump administration’s government-chopping operation months ago, but DOGE is still at work cutting environmental agencies’ spending.
EPA lands at No. 5 among agencies tracked by DOGE. The Interior and Energy Departments are in 13th and 16th place, respectively. Recent cuts include Interior contract cancellations from July and EPA grants terminated in June.
Cuts inside those agencies and others continue even as the early intense flurry of DOGE cuts dissipated after Musk left his high-profile role in May. Musk and the Trump administration vowed that DOGE’s work would continue after the Tesla CEO kick-started the government downsizing effort this year, with Musk referring to DOGE as a “way of life” that was “permeating throughout the government.”
